Wire Rope Sensor SX300 – Application Video Lock Gate
The extremely robust wire rope sensor SX300 by WayCon was developed specifically for measuring travel in hydraulic and telescopic cylinders. Using the SX300 when measuring the travel of hydraulic cylinders in embankment dam lock gates is now demonstrated in an application video.
Hydraulic cylinders open and close the lock gates and must sustain substantial water pressure in the process. The wire rope sensor is used to control and monitor the movem
ent speed and acceleration of the cylinders. The pressure-tight housing allows the sensor to be flange-mounted directly to the cylinder and the stainless steel measuring rope is simply secured to the piston. The sensor element, an absolute rotary encoder in the pressure-free range, provides precise information about the piston position with pinpoint accuracy and resolution.

New product brochure from WayCon, the specialist for professional sensor technology
The product range of WayCon includes inexpensive wire sensors with high reliability and precision accuracy. Equipped with a sturdy anodised aluminium casing, as well as optional Hartcoat® coating with a V4 measuring cable for corrosion protection, WayCon guarantees durability, even under the harshest of conditions.
For especially fast and accurate measuring work, WayCon also presents it proven laser sensors. In various versions, these sensors guarantee measurements in the micrometre range at a fast measurement frequency. The dot and line lasers even penetrate transparent discs.
WayCon’s linear potentiometers feature a variety of casing forms and installation options, including for spring stroke measurement, for example. What’s remarkable is the flexible mounting using clamping blocks, ball joints and flange.
Product information on magnetostrictive transducers and capacitive location sensors is also included in the brochure, along with ultrasonic sensors.

Magnetostrictive Transducer MAP
The MAP magnetostrictive transducer has been recently added to the WayCon Positionsmesstechnik GmbH group of magnetostrictive transducers. With the MAP, WayCon is offering another locator which works without contact and has a virtually unlimited service life due to its being free of wear and tear. Thanks to its compact profile construction and adjustable mounting bracket, installation of this locator is taken care of quickly and with ease. The MAP has two types of analogue output: Voltage and current.
• Strokes of 50 to 1500 mm
• Guided or free-moving position magnet
• Direct analogue output for stroke
• Valve plug or M12 plug/socket connector
• Working temperature: -20...+75°C
• Protection class IP65
• Supply voltage 24VDC ±20%

Robust, simple, precise – the Draw Wire Sensor SX 300
With the SX 300, WayCon offers cylinder manufacturers a low-cost and easy-to-install way to measure the piston stroke of large cylinders
With the SX 300, WayCon Positionsmesstechnik has developed an extremely robust draw wire sensor especially for stroke measurement in hydraulic and telescopic cylinders. With a measurement range of up to 15 metres, the SX 300 is ideal for use in “large applications”, for example dams, sluice gates, drawbridges, cranes or when constructing wind turbines.
Thanks to its pressure-proof casing, the SX 300 can be mounted directly on the face of the cylinder. The stainless-steel measuring rope is simply attached to the piston and held tightly by a spring in the sensor. The sensor element, a digital encoder, is located outside of the pressure area and provides data about the position of the piston with the utmost precision and resolution. The output signals can be freely selected from SSI, Profibus, CANopen, Profinet or EtherCAT and therefore offer maximum flexibility in the selection of control concepts.
The dynamic and robust sensors also allow for fast cylinder movements, are designed for operating pressures of up to 300 bar and are suitable for ambient temperatures of -20°C to +70°C. As a consequence, and thanks to their reliability, they can be used in all industrial sectors. Traditional applications include, for example, stroke measurement of hydraulic weir gates or synchronisation monitoring of parallel cylinder arrangements.

Flexible, precise, compact – LAS laser sensors

With its LAS sensor series, WayCon Positionsmesstechnik GmbH offers sensors which can meet any specific requirement: whether extremely compact or specifically for black surfaces, for long range in small design, or to be universal and of good value. Thanks to the robust and compact design, measurements are possible even in the tightest spaces. The laser sensors are ideally suited for thickness measurements, quality control and process supervision in machine construction, automation, in chemical industry or medical technology.
Amongst other features of the series are the excellent measurement characteristics: dark objects are measurable, as are objects behind a transparent sheet, and highly accurate distance measurements are feasible on various surfaces. As the series includes point lasers as well as line lasers, measurements on uneven surfaces do not present any difficulty at all.
